This year our family is studying the twentieth century. I've been excited myself to study this era with a new light. THat is, in reference to my family and the people I know. Though I learn this history in school, it never dawned on me that people I know were their when it happened. It all seemed like ancient history to me. Another thing we've been doing is finding movies to help us relate to the times. We studied about immigration last month. An old movie was suggested as a good watch so I ordered it from Netflix. "I Remember Mama" I've come to find that "if it's black and white, it's probably a good movie" THis particular movie was about a immigrant family trying to get by at the turn of the century. It made us laugh. It made us cry. It made us hold our breath. All of us were glued to the tv. We had got a late start in watching it. And thought, "well, we'll watch a part and catch the rest another day." Well, once we started, there was no stopping, we could not turn it off. The movie was told from the authors point of view. It told of how she wanted to be a writer. Dealing with rejection from the publishers. And learning how to write something fresh and original. So this gives us another reason to pick up this flick for all those wanna be writers out there. Even just for a good evening of wholesome entertainment, pick this flick! |
